As the sun just begins to set on a Thursday evening in San Luis Obispo, most Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students jump in their cars to head to the local farmer’s market. However, many students turn to public transportation to get there with less hassle.
This slideshow includes a few tips on how to navigate the bus system for the farmer’s market and how to maximize your experience downtown.
Why take the struggle bus downtown with all of the other Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students? Because of the delicious food and fresh produce available at the Farmer’s Market.
The sun begins to set, but the night is just beginning for the students who decide to take the bus downtown to the farmer’s market. The bus stop in front of the Performing Arts Center at Cal Poly slowly begins to get crowded.
Many students double check the SLO Transit App to see how much longer the wait will be.
The crowd in front of the Performing Arts Center begins to disperse. Two buses full of students had just passed by stating “Bus Full… Take Next Bus.” At this point many decide to go to another bus stop on campus at the Kennedy Library, while others decide to take Uber.
The bus begins to fill at the first stop, Kennedy Library. It was pretty full, however very few people had to stand at this point.
That all changed as soon as the bus reached the Performing Arts Center bus stop. Students began to pack into the already full bus, not wanting to wait an additional 20 minutes and miss more of the farmer’s market.
A photo of the line of students that were still not able to make it onto this bus. Hopefully, the next few buses were able to take them to farmer’s market.
The buses finally drop off at the Transit Center downtown. Farmer’s market was packed full of families and potential students during the Open House weekend at Cal Poly.
A look into some of the fresh produce available. Many people flocked to the produce to stock up on vegetables for the week.
A trip to downtown San Luis Obispo would not be complete without a visit to the “Sock Drawer,” a favorite local store for all things sock related.
